Senate Passes Bill to Censor Internet

So the senate passed a bill to allow them to take control over domain name that they deemed illegal.


If signed into law, the ‘Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act’ (COICA) would allow the Department of Justice to file a civil lawsuit against the domain owners. If the courts then decide that a site is indeed promoting copyright infringement, the DOJ can order the domain registrar to take the domain offline. The bill is not limited to domestics offenders, but also allows the DOJ to target foreign domain owners.

I personally don't like that much power given to the government. I feel that this is one step closer to having the government controlling the internet like what China does. Imagine, US might abuse the power and take down site it dislike, ie Wikileaks. I hope something stops this.:(

More like a slow reform, smaller government= less quarrels= more stuff gets done= less stupid stuff makes its way out into the world. Imagnine what america would be like if things actually GOT DONE... Y'all remember that stimulus bill right? Or what ever it was that was over 1000 pages long, THAT my friends is the stupid stuff I'm talking about. It's like they gave everyone a pen and told them to wruite something... we have morons in washington folks!

It doesn't matter what it's for people are still gonna get upset about it. As americans we don't really like the government restricting us an where we can go and what we can post. This opens the door up for future restrictions on the internet and a system similar to the one china has.
