With the release of the new BRS, or Black Rock Shooter, OVA. Lets explore how this internet phenomenon became an anime.

BRS started off as part of several illustrations created by huko, who the illustrator for the band Supercell. Along with BRS, huko created a whole array of character, including Dead Master, Maid Gunner, and Strength. There are actually 4 other Black★ character, who are disiquished from the others by a flaming eye similar to Black Rock Shooter. 

Ryo, who was also part of the band, was so inspired by the drawings, that he created a song based off the character, Black Rock Shooter, which huko created. Since song created by Supercell at the time were sung using the software Vocaloid, huko actually had to change some of his character design to match Hatsune Miku, who was the mascot of vocaloid. The video was released on the internet with great success.

After a great interest was shown for the music videos, it was confirmed that Black Rock Shooter was getting an OVA. Following this announcement, many BRS merchandise started appearing, like this. Finally on July 24, 2010, the OVA was released.

I have watched the OVA, and found it was good, but not the masterpiece I was hoping for. One problem was the fact that it was slow. The entire 50 minute episode would have fit better into a standard 24 minute episode. Alot of the sence could of been editted out, and they should of focued more on the action rather than the drama.

  I've seen it as well I liked it , but yea they could have put in a bit more action which would have definitely made it a bit better but I also liked the character development the friendship. Though yea they stretched it too far.

  I think it was a great show. I hope there are more episodes coming out.
