Sad news today as Director of Paprika and Perfect Blue, Satoshi Kon, passed away yesterday.

Satoshi Kon directed many movie masterpieces including the recent Paprika. The news was confirmed by  GAINAX's Yasuhiro Takeda via twitter account. The cause of death is not released. He was 47. Will update when more information is available.

Edit:

He was actually 46. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.

  Yeah, I heard about this. Directed and created Paranoia Agent I think. It is always sad when we loose people, my friends was a fan. But "so it goes..." at least you can still enjoy his previous work.

  How sad--I only just learned who this guy was. I happened to find "Paprika" for a dollar at a local store, and was captivated by it. Just finished watching "Tokyo Godfathers", and it was so touching and fun that I'm sad I didn't hear about Kon until after his death...
